4×4 Recovery Equipment for Beginners and Enthusiasts

by Ken

What’s the point of maintaining all four wheels on the ground? If you have 4-wheel drive, you’re going to go off-road at some point. However, you’ll need to bring the correct 4×4 accessories and equipment with you to ensure that your vehicle makes it back to the road.

We’ve got the gear to get you through whatever adventure you’re on.

Tyre Repair & MaintenanceMost 4×4’ers love getting off the beaten path to see what your 4WD can do. However, you’re four times more likely to experience a puncture than unicyclists. Outback Equipment’s tyre repair kits come in handy in this situation.

Each of our kits includes everything you need to get back on your feet if you’re the type who genuinely cares about your tyres, which consists of an instruction manual.

Repairing a Punctured 4WD Tire

First and foremost, don’t approach a flat with the attitude that “she’ll be right.” Unless you get a kick out of destroying your rims, axel, and gearbox, you should fix it as quickly as possible. And getting back on track after a puncture is as easy as following five simple steps.

In reality, a tyre repair kit will allow you to complete the repairs without removing the wheel from the rim.

Straps for Heavy-Duty Recovery

recovery straps and accessoriesWe carry a range of recovery straps and accessories at Outback Equipment to help you get out of difficulties. When recovering a car, robust recovery tow straps are likely to be among the most crucial pieces of equipment. The following are some of the straps that will be included in a complete recovery kit:

Snatch straps: These are made of nylon webbing with an elastic property that produces the energy needed for one vehicle to pull another out of a bog. When it comes to recovering a vehicle, using a snatch strap is arguably one of the most used approaches. However, there are numerous safety precautions to be taken, and these should be followed at all times.

Equaliser straps are used to distribute the load over the chassis rather than putting the strain on a single point of recovery. These should be used with tow hooks rather than shackles because the force will put an angular strain on shackles, lowering their operating load limit and making recovery less than optimal. With snatch straps or winch straps/cables, an equalisation strap can be employed.

Tree trunk protectors are used when winching and are intended to keep trees from being girdled (where the bark is stripped away from the tree and can die as a result). Tree trunk protector straps are often rather wide in order to avoid cutting into the surface as a cable, rope, or chain would. Winch extension strap: This strap, as the name implies, will extend the length of your winch cable if it isn’t long enough. They’re not meant to be worn with a snatch strap.

4WD Recovery Tracks: How to Use Them

4x4 recovery traxWhen you become bogged down in the sand, your recovery tracks will come in helpful. The first thing you should do is grab the shovel’s business end and begin digging. To give the wheels something to drive on, you’ll need to make a few tracks out of the front of them. Pop the recovery tracks out the front of the wheel and slowly inch onto them to recover your vehicle.

When you’re stuck on the beach, the tide is slowly coming in, your partner is sitting in the front asking why you can’t simply drive out, and the kids are growing restless in the back, having a collection of recovery tracks will make your life a whole lot simpler!

With a pair of recovery tracks from Outback Equipment, you can make your life a lot easier and safer.

Is a 4WD recovery kit required?

kits designed for recoveryWell, it all depends on where you want to drive. You may require one if you believe it will ever encounter anything other than immaculate freshly placed bitumen. But you’ll need one if you ever plan on tackling any of the following:

  1. Sand
  2. Trails that are muddy
  3. Roads with a lot of curves or that have a lot of banking
  4. Trails off the beaten path
  5. Paths flooded
  6. Forests or winding paths.
  7. If you have a 4WD, though, these are pretty much the only areas where you can have some fun.

Why Do You Require a Winch?

When you’re in a tight situation, you need a quick and effective technique to get yourself out of it. Even if you have a 4WD companion at your side, a steep incline or a muddy route are challenging to navigate, and the last thing you need is two bogged vehicles! You may need a winch if you’re far off the established path and don’t have enough traction to get yourself out of trouble.

With a winch, you can travel with a little more peace of mind, which is quite essential in an outdoor setting. A portable winch is ideal for serious outdoor adventures, but it should always be a last resort. You’ll be delighted you have a 4X4 winch when you need one.

4×4 Jacks

jack used for recoveryWe enjoy getting out in the four-wheel-drive for a weekend of trail exploration. And if you’re a dedicated bush explorer, you’ll undoubtedly have an extensive collection of recovery equipment and repair supplies. A premium exhaust jack or 4WD high lift jack will be high on your list of must-haves for more intense 4X4 adventures.

When camping and four-wheeling are a large part of your life, you want the most significant equipment to make things easier.

As a dedicated four-wheel driver, there’s a good possibility you’ll get stuck, so don’t get caught off guard – or have to dig your way out of a hole – with Outback Equipment’s choice of excellent exhaust jacks and high lift jacks. When you think about traditional jacks, one of the first things that come to mind is that you need a great, solid surface to place the jack on, such as bitumen or mud.

Then you must be able to go beneath the vehicle and secure it in the proper location so that you may safely elevate it. However, anyone who has ever needed a jack while four-wheel drive knows that finding a solid place – much alone being able to get under the car – could be the least of your worries.
